From Amy with love.
In October we’ll be listening to scary music all month long! We’ve got some scary songs to sing, including: 1 little, 2 little, 3 little monsters, A Pirates Life For Me & What Do Witches Eat.
We’ll also be continuing our listening games with some Halloween style twists and, of course, we’ll be doing spooky scarf dancing!! I don’t really have any spooky instruments, but I think I’ll bring in my accordion for the kids to experiment with!!!
Our listening examples will include:
1)Will & Elizabeth from Pirates of the Caribbean
2) Ride of the Valkyries by Wagner
3) The Sorcerer’s Apprentice by Paul Dukas
4) Danse Macabre by
5) A Night on the Bare Mountain from Mussorgsky!!
Should be a spook-tastic month!!!!
In September we listened to Overtures. Since an Overture is the start of a theatrical piece & September is the start of the school year it seems like a good match!!!
We learned the stories and music of: The William Tell Overture by Rossini, The overture from A Midsummer Night’s Dream by Mendolssohn, and Swan Lake by Tchaikovsky!!
We also learned what a composer is and how to identify the different instrument families! We played some games, sang some great new songs and I brought in my French Horn for the kids to see & hear!!!
